Following our enforced extended stay in La Paz we were happy to arrive in the city of Sucre and discover a beautiful refined and relaxing colonial city. All the central buildings are white and in the Spanish colonial style, looking just lovely set against the blue sky.
One of many fine old buildings in SucreWandering the streets and parks in the warm sunshine was really relaxing. Sucre is the judicial capital of Bolivia and a big university town. In contrast to La Paz the centre is calm, tidy and developed. There are more clean, healthy looking people and far more private cars on the road.
Lots of nice public spaces.

There are of course more working class areas with busy markets but these are out of the colonial centre. We spent most of our time unashamedly privileged in the sanitised heart of the city, sipping good coffee, drinking juices, licking ice-cream and nibbling chocolates.
Another splendidly restored building
The schools were out in force for some kind of pre-Easter processionA lengthy queue of old-timers. The Evo Morales government has introduced a highly popular and much needed payment to the elderly, almost none of whom have pensions. A one hundred metre, several hours wait will not put anyone off their 100 Bolivianos (£10).
